LocalHugDealer Studios ("we", "us") is a one-person game studio run by Llewellyn Craddock in Cape Town, South Africa. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It covers this website, emails with us, our mailing list, playtests, feedback forms and our community channels.
Some games collect information of their own, for example optional gameplay analytics. Each of those games has its own privacy policy that adds to this one:
The short version
- This website has no cookies, no analytics and no tracking.
- We only get personal information you choose to give us, such as an email you send or a mailing list signup.
- We never sell your information, and we don't show ads.
- You can ask us to show you, correct or delete your information at any time.
This website
This website is a set of plain pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics and has no forms. Its fonts and images are served from this site, not from third parties.
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub receives your IP address and browser details when you visit, and may log them for security. See the GitHub Privacy Statement.
Game trailers are embedded from YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode, which sets no YouTube cookies until you press play. Once you play a video, Google's Privacy Policy applies to it.
Information you give us
- Emails. When you email us (for support, press or anything else), we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and your message. We use them only to reply, and delete the conversation when it's no longer needed.
- Mailing list. If you sign up, we store your email address with a third-party email service and use it only to send you studio and game news. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
- Playtests and betas. If you sign up to playtest or join a beta, we keep the details the signup asks for (such as a name or Discord username and an email address) to organise it. Beta signups run on Google Forms, and Google's Privacy Policy applies to the form itself. We delete your details once the playtest or beta is over, unless you ask to stay on for future ones.
- Feedback and bug reports. Our feedback and bug report forms run on Google Forms. They don't ask for your email address. We receive only what you type into them, which we use to fix and improve our games, so please leave out personal details. Google's Privacy Policy applies to the form itself.
Stores and communities
Our games are sold and distributed through stores such as itch.io, Steam, Google Play and the Apple App Store. The store handles your account and payment, and its own privacy policy applies. We receive sales reports from stores, and never your payment details. If a store lets you share your email address with us when you buy, we use it only for that game.
Our YouTube channel, subreddit and Discord server are run on those platforms, under their own privacy policies. We can see what you post there, as anyone in the community can.
Why we're allowed to use it
We use your information because you agreed to it (the mailing list, and optional analytics in a game), or because we have a legitimate interest in replying to you, running playtests and improving our games. You can withdraw your agreement at any time.
Who else handles it
We share personal information only with the services named in this policy, and only so they can do their job for us. Some of them are outside South Africa (mainly in the United States and the European Union). We choose services that protect personal information to a standard comparable to South African and European law. We disclose information to authorities only when the law requires it.
Keeping it safe
We keep personal information to a minimum, store it only in the services named here, keep access to those accounts to ourselves, and delete it when it's no longer needed. No system is perfectly secure, but we'll tell you and the relevant regulator promptly if your information is ever compromised.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy,
- correct it,
- delete it,
- stop using it, or stop using it for a particular purpose.
Email support@localhugdealer.com and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to South Africa's Information Regulator or to the data protection authority where you live.
Children
Our games and channels are made for a general audience, not for children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Union). If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, we update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll also announce it on this website and our Discord server before it takes effect.
